DHAKA: The government on Wednesday deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members across the country ahead of the first phase of 72-hour hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Jamaat called the shutdown protesting the death sentence of party Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami for his war crimes during liberation war in 1971.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of BGB Headquarters Mohsin Reza confirmed the matter to banglanews.
BGB sources said some 10 platoons of BGB personnel started patrolling the city along with regular law enforcing agency personnel from 7:00pm keeping the law-and-order situation under control.
Another 10 platoons of BGB will be kept stand-by from early Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Jamaat-e-Islami called the hartal for Thursday, Sunday and Monday protesting the verdict of International Crimes Tribunal in the war crimes case against its Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
