Biman to resume domestic flights in December

DHAKA: National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines is going to resume its domestic fights in December after adding two jets in its fleet, said a top official of Biman.

Biman’s acting managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) AM Mosaddique Ahmed told banglanews that two airplanes will be added in Biman’s fleet in December and the domestic flights will also be resumed in that month.

Biman sources said that Biman has already finalized the process of taking lease of two Dash-8 Q 400 next generation airplanes from Egypt and the jets will arrive in the country by December.

The schedule of domestic flights has already been prepared so that the flight operation can be launched upon arrival of the jets, the sources added.

Made in 2011, Egypt bought the two turboprop airplanes brand new. Since then, the aircrafts have flown for 1500 hours so far. The jets, with 76 seats each, went on ground since Egypt’s tourism business collapsed following the Arab Spring.

Biman’s domestic flights have been off since it announced that its F-26 jet becomes unfit for fly in 2012.
