No rally, demo in city without holydays: Obaidul

DHAKA: Government is likely to go for imposing ban on staging rally and demonstration in the city without holidays to ease the traffic congestion, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday.

The minister was addressing a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar premises as the chief guest.

The rally was organized by Lion Club International, District 315 A-2 on the occasion of the ‘Lions Service Month-2014’.

Obaidul said that the Suhrawardy Udyan will divide in four parts; rally and demonstration will be allowed nowhere except the certain places and police will decide the rally places.

Anyone or any organization wants to stage either rally or demonstration, they will have to do so in holydays, he added.

Obaidul said that government is thinking about this move in a bid to reduce the city’s traffic congestion.

Prior to holding the rally, a colorful procession (Shova Jatra) was brought out, parading from National Museum to Central Shaheed Minar premises.

Lions’ district unit governor AFS Royees Ahmed, first District vice governor Lion Swadesh Ranjan Saha, Seocnd District vice Governor MK Bashar and and Service Month committee member secretary Lion M Fakhruddin, among others, were present at the rally.
