DHAKA: After hours-long frantic effort of 20 fire fighting units, the fire came under control at BSEC (Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation building) Bhaban at city’s Karwan Bazar area Friday noon.
The Fire Service and Civil Defense Director General Brig Gen Ali Ahmed Khan made the disclosure around 1:45pm after visiting the spot.
Earlier, the fire originated from the store room of the Daily Amar Desh, situated at 11th floor of the 12-storied BSEC building.
Along with Amar Desh, the building also houses two private TV stations-- NTV and RTV.
However, the two TV channels had halted their transmission immediately after the devastating fire broke out.
Fire Service and Civil Defense director Major Mahbub informed banglanews earlier all the people, who were inside the building, were taken out safely.
On February 26 in 2007, another fire broke out at the same building which left three killed, over 100 injured and 10 offices burnt.
