GAZIPUR: War crimes convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman is being taken to Central Jail on Tuesday after Supreme Court upheld his death penalty for crimes against humanity.
A reliable source in Central Jail confirmed the matter saying, “A condemned cell has been made prepared for him.”
Earlier a prison van carrying him left Kashimpur Jail at 12:00pm for Dhaka.
On Monday, the Supreme Court Appellate Division upheld the death sentence against Jamaat assistant secretary general Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.
He was sentenced to death in 3rd and 4th charges—brought for the mass killing in Shohagpur of the Sherpur district and killing of Golam Mostafa.
On May 9, 2013, the ICT-2, led-by Justice Obaidul Hassan, awarded capital punishment to the Jamaat assistant secretary general for his crimes against humanity during country’s Liberation War in 1971.
