DHAKA: After meeting the death row war criminal Kamaruzzaman at Dhaka Central Jail Wednesday, his son Hasan Iqbal told banglanews that his father is mentally and physically okay.
I have never seen someone as like as my father having such a mental strength,” he said there adding: “Baba is doing all works as usual.”
Hasan, quoting his father Kamaruzzaman, further informed that his father claimed he (Kamaruzzaman) has been victimized.
Earlier, the family members of the Jamaat leader went to meet him at the central jail in city around 10:00am.
Sources said that Kamaruzzaman’s wife Nurunnahar; four sons Iqbal, Wali, Wami, Safi and Wasi; daughter Afia along with Kamaruzzaman’s brother and his two daughter-in-laws went there to visit him.
However, confirming the matter, lawyer Shishir Monir said that this was a regular family meeting; they were not called by the jail authorities.
On Tuesday (November 4), Kamaruzzaman was shifted to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail.
On Monday (November 3), the Supreme Court Appellate Division upheld the death sentence against Jamaat assistant secretary general Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.
He was sentenced to death in 3rd and 4th number charges—brought for the mass killing in Shohagpur village of Sherpur district and killing of Golam Mostafa.
On May 9, 2013, the ICT-2, led-by Justice Obaidul Hassan, awarded capital punishment to the Jamaat assistant secretary general for his crimes against humanity during country’s Liberation War in 1971.
