3 buses torched in city

DHAKA: Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami allegedly torched at least three buses in different places of the city during the hartal hours on Wednesday.

In Azimpur, a passenger bus was set fire in front of Azimpur Maternity Hospital around 8:15pm.

Enayet Hossain of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Headquarters’ control room told banglanews that two units from Palashi fire service station doused the fire.

In Karwan Bazar, a group of miscreants numbering 8-10 people set ablaze a passenger bus in front of the office of an English daily in the area around 8:00pm.

Enayet told banglanews that two units of fire fighters team from Tejgaon rushed in and doused the fire.

In Gazipur, activists of Islami Chhattra Shibir allegedly set ablaze a sanding bus of ‘Balaka Paribahan’ pouring petrol in front of Sony Showroom in the city bus stand area around 6:00pm.

Fire fighters, however, managed to douse the flame, said district FSCD deputy assistant director Akhtaruzzaman Liton.

Jamaat-e-Islami called the hartal protesting the death penalty of former Al-Badr key organizer Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.
