BINA Diplomats to travel 4 countries

DHAKA: In the first ever visit of its kind, the Heads of Diplomatic Missions of Bhutan, India and Nepal resident in Dhaka and accredited to Bangladesh will travel together from Dhaka to India, Bhutan and Nepal.

They will travel along the land route with the objective of highlighting the importance of sub-regional cooperation in such crucial areas as trade, transit, border infrastructure and connectivity.

Pema Choden, Ambassador of Bhutan, Pankaj Saran, High Commissioner of India and Hari Kumar Shrestha, Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh will undertake the journey from 9-12 November, 2014.

The BINA (Bhutan-India-Nepal Ambassadors) Visit is being undertaken with the support of the Government of Bangladesh.

A representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh will also be part of the team.  The Indian team will also include  Gopal Baglay, Joint Secretary (States) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

The team will visit the Bangladesh-India-Bhutan-Nepal border areas and Land Customs Stations and Immigration Posts servicing international trade and people-to-people contact in the sub-region. 

The team will visit the Land Customs Stations of Burimari-Changrabandha (Bangladesh-India), Phuentsholing-Jaigaon (Bhutan-India), Kakarbhitta-Panitanki (Nepal-India) and Phulbari-Banglabandha (India-Bangladesh).

They will also visit land ports in those places to observe the existing infrastructure and facilities, and hold meetings with concerned land port officials.
During the visit, the team will hold interactions with Chambers of Commerce in Phuentsholing (Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Kakarbhitta (Mechi Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Siliguri (Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of North Bengal – FOCIN) and the Panchagarh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Panchgarh Exporters-Importers Association.  They will also hold meetings with Customs and Immigration Officials at the border points.
