Drive begins against unfit cars

DHAKA: In a bid to reduce accident, the government Monday started countrywide drive against unfit vehicles those have no licence or carry fake licence.

In the early hour of the day, Nazrul Islam, chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), told banglanews, “Its our routine work, but we put more emphasis this after seeing the tragedy in Natore accident.”

This accident will increase awareness and lessen accident, he expressed hope.

Deputy Commissioners, police administration and mayors of different city corporations and municipalities across country have taken part in the drive.

Besides, Dhaka district administration and BRTA officials set up mobile courts at Kawranbazar, Gabtoli, Kakoli, Shahbagh, college gate and Babubazar areas of the capital.

A substantial number of the 215,140 registered vehicles, including buses and trucks, which ply on roads in the capital and on highways and 33 percent of these vehicles do not possess any fitness certificate.
