SIRAJGANJ: At least 10 people including five police were injured in a gunfight with robbers at Ghargram Bazar area under Tarash upazila early Friday.

The injured include the Officer-in-Charge of Tarash Thana Ataur Rahman, Sub-Inspector Mirza Mojaharul Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sohel Rana and Hafiz and Constable Abdul Hannan.

Five robbers also sustained bullet injuries in the incident, reported banglanews correspondent.

Later, police detained five bullet-injured robbers and seized a shutter gun, five rounds of bullets and local weapons from them.

Police and local sources said the robbers were preparing to rob in the area early Friday.

Sources also said, acting on tip-off, police conducted a drive here. Robbers opened fire sensing the presence of police. Later police also opened fire, leaving ten people including five cops injured.

OC Ataur Rahman told banglanews that additional police were deployed in the area who detained the robbers. Police have been processing to file a case in this connection, he added.
