5 killed in Jessore road crash

TANGAIL: Five people, including a child, were killed and 18 others injured in a road accident in Shalla area of Kalihati upazila of the district on Sunday.

Of the deceased, four were identified as Haider Ali, 40, of Sundarganj upazila and Haider Ali, 45, of Kukdhala village in Gaibandha district, Aklima, 21, wife of Shahin Mia and her six-month old daughter Sumaiya.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akheruzzaman of Bangabandhu Bridge East Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a truck in the area around 3:15pm, leaving three people dead on the spot and 20 others, including bus driver, injured.

On information, the fire fighting team recovered the injured and sent them to the Tangail Medical College Hospital.

Two of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Police seized the two vehicles, however, the driver of the truck managed to flee the scene.
