COX’S BAZAR: Coast Guard members in a drive rescued five people on Thursday from a Shah Porir Dip’s Majhar Para area house under Teknaf of the district.
They were being taken to Malaysia illegally through the seaway, sources told banglanews.
The people, who were rescued--Belal Uddin, Mansur Alam, Amanul Haque, Didar Miah nad Jashim Uddin--are the residents of Eidgaon Nagundia area under sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar, sources added.
The law enforcers, however, also detained a broker in the drive.
The broker is identified as Enam Hossain, son of Imam Hossain, resident of Shah Porir Dip’s Dail Para area.
Confirming the matter, Teknaf Coast Guard station commander lieutenant colonel Sharif Uddin Ahammad said that acting on a tip-off, they had conducted the drive at a Osama’s house of Shah Porir Dip’s Majhar Para area around 8:00pm and found the illegally Malaysia-goers along with the broker.
The law enforcers, at that time, also found Tk 3.70 lakh and six mobile phones from the people who were rescued.
“The men were gathered there to be taken to Malaysia illegally through the seaway,” according to the Teknaf Coast Guard station commander.
The broker has already been handed over to the police custody, he added.
“A case will also be filed in this connection,” said lieutenant colonel Sharif Uddin Ahammad.
