JESSORE: Miscreants gunned down a pro-Awami League (AL) municipality councilor, Molla Oaliar Rahman, 55, in Guakhola village under Abhaynagar upazila on Sunday morning.

Oaliar was the joint secretary of the upazila AL unit and president of the upazila Sramik Parishad unit. He hailed from Guakhola.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Abhaynagar Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Chhayeruddin said miscreants shot at Oaliar when he went out of the mosque in the village after officering Fazr prayer, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

No arrest reported and police were looking into the matter, the OC added.
