DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained six people including the mastermind of killing of Rajshahi University professor AKM Shafiul Islam on Saturday.

The detainees are mastermind Ariful Islam Manik, organizing secretary of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal (JCD) Katakhli unit of the district, JCD member Pintu, terrorist Tokai Babu, Mamunm, Kalu, and Sabuj.

They were held in separate drives in Dhaka and Rajshahi on Saturday night.

RAB Headquarters Legal and Media Wing director Major Rumman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On November 15, miscreants chopped Professor Shafiul of Sociology Department at the university to death in front of his residence in Chaddapai area.

Shafiul was on way to home by a motorcycle. Miscreants intercepted his vehicle, indiscriminately stabbed on his neck and back with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him inured critically.

Fatally injured Shafiul was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries.
