NARAYANGANJ: A man was burnt to death and wife sustained severe burn injuries as a fire broke out in Masdair area under Fatulla upazila of the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Abed Ali, 70, former Union Parishad (UP) member of Enayetnagar of the upazila.

Locals said that the fire originated from the gas stove while Abed Ali’s wife was cooking at their house in the morning.

However, the fire spread soon in the room, leaving the couple injured critically.

They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Abed Ali succumbed to his injuries around 12:00 noon.

His wife Rahima Begum is in critical condition at the DMCH Burn Unit.

Sadar upazila chairman Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident to banglanews.
