PARBATIPUR (DINAJPUR): At least 21 people were injured in a clash between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local people in Bhimorpur area of the upazila on Friday.
The clash ensued following a road accident that killed two BGB men in the afternoon. Vehicle plying on Phulbari-Dinajpur road remained stopped.
Earlier, two BGB members, Al Amin, 23 and Mohammad Rubel, 24, of Rangamati BGB-29 Battalion, were killed in a road accident.
Locals said that a rashly driven truck ran over a motorcycle on the highway in front of Shanto-Kanto Rice Mill around 2:15pm, leaving the BGB personnel dead on the spot.
After the accident, the driver of the truck hid himself in the rice mill.
Being informed, the BGB members from Rangamati-29 rushed to the spot and wanted to arrest the driver. But, the locals refused to give him that resulted clash between them.
Locals said the BGB members fired 25/30 rounds of bullets to disperse the mob, leaving 21 people injured. One sustained bullet shots.
The injured were admitted to the local hospitals.
Huge law enforcers, riot police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.
Officer-in-charge ABM Rezaul Islam of Phulbari Thana said the higher authorities are discussing about the matter.
