DHAKA: ‘Swadhinata Padak’ award winning artist Qayyum Chowdhury, who suddenly felt sick at a function of Bengal Foundation on Sunday night and later died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), will be laid to rest at Azimpur Graveyard on Monday.
Quoting to the family sources, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said that the Namaz-e-Janaza of Qayyum Chowdhury will be held at Dhaka University Central Jam-e-Mosque after Zohr prayers.
Asaduzzaman Noor said that Qayyum Chowdhury’s body will be taken to his former workplace at Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University at 10:00am. Then, his body will be kept at central Shaheed Minar at 11:00pm for two hours as people of all walks of life to pay their last tributes to the veteran artist, he added.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held after Zohr prayers at DU central mosque. Then, he will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard beside his grandfather’s grave.
The veteran artist suddenly fell sick during his speech on the fourth-day of Bengal Foundation organized classical music festival at Bangladesh Army Stadium around 8:40pm.
Then, he was whisked off to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) immediately where on-duty doctor pronounced him dead around 9:00pm.
His body has been kept at Square Hospital mortuary.
However, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition leader Rowshan Ershad, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and other cultural organizations expressed their deep shock in separate messages at the death of the artist.
