Bangladesh, Malaysia sign 4 accords

DHAKA: An agreement and three others memorandum of understanding (MoU) have been signed between Bangladesh and Malaysia following a bilateral meeting between PM Sheikh Hasina and her counterpart Nazib Tun Abdul Razak.

The signing ceremony was held at Perdana Square of Putrajaya in Malaysia on Wednesday.

The agreement has been inked in facilitating Bangladeshis to get Malaysia visa.

The protocol amending the existing ‘Memorandum of Understanding on the Employment of Workers-2012’ between Bangladesh and Malaysia was signed allowing Bangladeshi citizens to work outside the mainland of Malaysia.

Another MoU has been penned between two nations to ensure bi-lateral cooperation in tourism sector. Apart from this, other MoU has also been signed on cultural cooperation.

Prior to the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was given a hearty reception at Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office at Putrajaya.

As Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived at Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak received her in the lobby.

A smartly turned out contingent of Male Royal Regiment of Malaysian Army presented a guard of honour to her. At that time the national anthems of the two countries were played. Sheikh Hasina inspected the guard and took salute.

Earlier in the day, she attended the ‘Dialogue on Investment and Trade Opportunities in Bangladesh’ at 10:30am (local time) at Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur.

Hasina addressed the function where Malay South-South Association (MASSA) president Tan Sri Azman Hashim delivered the opening speech at the dialogue while Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia AKM Atiqur Rahman delivered closing remarks.

Hasina is staying the country on a three-day official visit to Malaysia in a bid to bolster bilateral relationship in trade and investment apart from expediting export of Bangladeshi manpower.

Later on Thursday, Sheikh Hasina will leave Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) around 12:00pm.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato Hamzah Zainuddin, Deputy Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia Dato’ Haji Ismail Haji Abdul Mutalib (Minister-in-attendance) and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia AKM Atiqur Rahman will see her off at the airport.

Hasina is scheduled to reach at Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 2:00pm Thursday.
