DHAKA: The vice-chancellors of country’s public universities have agreed to take the government colleges under their supervision with a view to ensuring quality higher education. 

The most of public university VCs, including Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi, came to a consensus at an urgent meeting held at UGC Bhaban at city’s Agargaon.

Confirming the matter, the university grants commission (UGC) chairman Professor Dr AK Azad Chowdhury told banglanews that the UGC has also formed a six-member committee to oversee the process.

The committee, led by UGC member Professor Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, is comprised of VCs of aforesaid three universities, an additional director and two members of UGC. 

The university grants commission called the meeting after getting an education ministry letter on November 5 following the direction of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the ministry.

The premier asked there to bring the government colleges under supervision of public universities.
