Salvaged tanker towed to forest station

BAGERHAT: The salvage barge ‘BD Rising’, dragged the sunken oil tanker to Joymoni Forest Station 3.5 kilometer away from the spot to anchor it there on Thursday noon.

The barge of Khan Jahan Ali (R) Salvage Enterprise (KSE)’, began the rescue operation of the sunken oil tanker—“OT Southern Star 7'-- at 10:00am.

Khan Jahan Ali (R) Salvage Enterprise (KSE) managing director Abul Kalam confirmed the matter.

M/S Harun & Co., owned the sunken tanker, hired the barge.

The 'OT Southern Star 7', carrying 350,000 litres of furnace oil, sank in Shyla River in Chandpai range of Sundarbans after another oil tanker ‘MT Total’ hit the tanker Tuesday.

The sunken tanker’s master Mokhlesur Rahman, 50, went missing since the accident.

According to Department of Forest the amount of loss may extend to TK 100 crore.
