JESSORE: Motor workers have called for a 48-hour long transport strike, starting from Wednesday dawn, on 32 routes of 10 districts in Khulna Division.
The districts are Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Jessore, Jhenaidah, Khulna, Kushtia, Magura, Meherpur, Narail and Satkhira.
Sources told banglanews that the strike, starting from 6:00am of Wednesday, will continue till Friday 6:00am.
Districts’ Transport Workers' Federation Coordination Committee, however, declared the strike, seeking implementation of their four-point demands, sources added.
Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation’s Khulna divisional committee president Azizul Alam Mintu said that their demands are to restore punishment of road accident (under the rule of 302) from seven years to three years, stopping corruption in issuing driving license, prohibiting police from harassing drivers and helpers in the name of vehicle inspection and making swift the journey over removing extortion on roads and highways including ferry ghat and removing local hats.
Among others, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation’s Khulna divisional committee members Mahbubur Rahman Majnu, Mortuja Hasan Mohammad Ali and Intaj Ali, were also present at Jessore Transport Workers' Federation office during the press briefing.
