DHAKA: Imran H Sarkar, the spokesperson of a Gonojagoron Moncho faction, welcoming the verdict of death sentence to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam, said that it was much-awaited.

Expressing his satisfaction, Imran H Sarkar made the statement soon after the verdict was pronounced on Tuesday noon.

The pro-liberation platform representative, moreover, said that the verdict has also reflected people’s wish.

Earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general ATM Azharul Islam for crimes against humanity and other offences during 1971 Liberation War.

A three-member judge panel of ICT-1, led by Justice Enayetur Rahim gave the capital punishment at 12:30pm.
