DHAKA: The employees and contractors of Chevron Bangladesh this year donated 1121 bags of blood to support the country’s rising demand for safe blood.
This commitment of blood donation has led the company to be recognized as the ‘Highest Blood Donor Organization’ for the second consecutive year by the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS).
However, Chevron successfully concluded the second round of its biannual blood donation drive in December 2014. Workforce from Chevron’s Bibiyana, Jalalabad and Moulavi Bazar Gas Plants has contributed by donating a total of 380 blood bags.
In Bangladesh, the annual need for blood is approximately 600,000 units. Blood transfusions may be needed in the course of surgeries or by patients afflicted by a wide range of ailments, including haemophilia, dengue, blood-cancer, thalassaemia and other life-threatening diseases.
Chevron Bangladesh is a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies. Chevron is the largest producer of natural gas in Bangladesh, supplying approximately 50 percent of the country’s natural gas consumption and the largest foreign investor.
In areas where they operate, Chevron Bangladesh invests in activities and programs that focus primarily on economic development, education and health care.
Their social investment initiatives affect the lives of approximately 30,000 people in the country. They work with our communities across our operations, building long-term partnerships that foster social and economic development in the country.
In the first round of Chevron’s blood donation drive, held in June 2014, 741 employees and contractors from all the fields came forward to donate blood.
