Cop among 3 killed in Sirajganj road crash

SIRAJGANJ: Three people, including a police official, were killed and five others injured in a road accident on Bangabandhu Bridge west highway in Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were indentified as Abdul Based, 35, a constable of Siranjganj police line, Mofizur Rahman, 32, the driver of police van, hailed from Dhaka’s Mirpur-10 and bus driver Jahid Hasan Pramanik, 48, hailed from Bhabaniganj area of Natore Sadar.

Locals and police sources said a Rajshahi-bound passenger bus went out of order at Koddda intersection around 5:00am and on information, a patrol police van rushed to the spot to ensure security of stranded passengers.

Later, a speedy-truck knocked the parked passenger bus from behind around 5:45am, leaving three people, including a constable of police, dead and injured five others.

The injured were sent to Sirajganj General Hospital.

Bangabandhu Bridge West thana officer-in-charge ATM Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

The truck was seized and a case will be filed in the connection, he added.
