BENAPOLE (JESSORE): A restriction has been imposed at Benapole check-post in Jessore on visitors who want to attend Bishwa Ijtema in Bangladesh with tourist visa.

The land port immigration authorities imposed the restriction from 10:00am on Thursday.

This restriction has resulted over 400 people, who came from India and other countries, stranded at Benapole.

An Indian resident Abdur Rahman told banglanews that he has been attending Ijtema in Bangladesh for last 15 years. This is the first time he heard that no one will be allowed to attend Ijtema with a tourist visa.

We could not fall victims of this suffering if the authorities declared the restriction earlier, he added.

A police official, preferring anonymity, told banglanews that the government has imposed this restriction due to the ongoing political unrest in the country.

According to him, about 15 hundred visitors with tourist visa came to attend Ijtema from different countries in past three days.

Benapole check-post immigration officer-in-charge Aktaruzzaman told banglanews that they are refusing the entry of the visitors heading to attend Ijtema with tourist visa after getting an order from the higher authorities Thursday morning.

People who are coming with Tabligh visa are free from this restriction, he added.
