DHAKA: Two policemen and three suspected robbers were injured after a gang of ‘robbers’ traded gunfire with lawmen in Aftabnagar area of the city early Friday.

Police also detained five robbers, including three injured, from the spot. All are members of the robber gang.
 
Tipped-off that a robber gang was taking preparation in the area, police rushed to the spot. Sensing the lawmen’s presence, the gang began firing, police retailed with gunshots, leaving two policemen and three robbers bullet-injured.

The injured robbers --Swapan, 27, Masum, 25, and, Monir, 26-- were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital while the injured lawmen are undergoing treatment at Police Lines Hospital in the city.
 
Identity of the policemen could not be known.

Police also seized two machetes and a knife from the spot.

Badda Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) M Mozammel Haque confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A case was filed in this connection, said the SI.
