2 killed, 40 hurt as bus overturns in N’ganj

RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ: A passenger bus turned turtle on Asian Highway (bypass) road in Amlab area of Rupganj upazila Wednesday morning, killing two people and injuring 40 others.

One of the deceased was identified as George Mian, 35, son of Ohijal Haque of Malakchar Sarkarpara under Basuganj Thana of Jamalpur district. Identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

The road mishap caused a long tailback on the roads.

Bhulta police outpost assistant Sub-Inspector (SI) Zulfikar Talukdar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said a passenger bus of Bismillah Paribahan (Dhaka Metro B 14-0868) overturned in the area around 6:00am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving two people dead on the spot and 40 others injured.

The ASI, quoting passengers, said the accident happened due to reckless or careless driving.

Meanwhile, several hundred vehicles, including goods-laden trucks, got stranded on the both sides of the accident spot.
