US urges to refrain from violence

DHAKA: The United States expressed deep shock and sadness over the attack on former state minister for Foreign affairs Reaz Rahman and condemned the use of violence for political objectives.

In a statement issued by the US Department of State, the US also called upon all parties to refrain from acts of violence and exercise restraint and eschew violence and intimidation.

The country has also urged the government to investigate, track down, and hold accountable those responsible for these acts, the statement added.

Avik Rahman, Deputy Press Chief US Embassy, Dhaka sent the statement through email.

The country, in another statement, expressed its sadness over the countrywide loss of lives amid hartal and blockade and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

The country also condemned countrywide violences.

US also urged the government to ensure people can freely exercise their right to peaceful political expression.
