DHAKA: Private car driver Abul Kalam (28), who sustained injuries in a petrol bomb attack during blockade violence on January 9 in Moghbazar, succumbed to injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.

He died at 12:45pm while undergoing treatment at DMCH on the day.

The ill-fated Kalam was son of late Abdul Haque Hawladar, hailed from Rangta village in Agoiljhara Thana of Barisal.

The victim’s brother Abu Taleb told banglanews that Kamal sustained burn injuries in a petrol bomb attack while he was coming down from the car in Moghbazar at 11:00pm on January 11.

He died at noon at ICU of DMCH burn unit while undergoing treatment, Taleb added.

Burn Unit ICU head Shah Alam Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque visited DMCH to see the patients, who have sustained burn injuries during the ongoing blockade across the country.

He also enquired about the medical treatment of the victims at the burn unit.

The IGP told the media that he has come to visit the burn victims. Three died earlier while one succumbed to the injuries Thursday.

He further said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also taking information about the burn victims.

Replying to a question, the police boss told the journalists that drives to nab the criminals have been intensified.

He hoped that they (criminals) will be detained soon and brought under judgment.
