ETV chairman confesses in sedition case

DHAKA: Ekushey Television (ETV) Limited Chairman Abdus Salam on Monday gave confessional statement in a sedition case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan recorded the statement of Abdus Salam after he was produced before the court after a five-day remand.

Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Wahiduzzaman appealed to the court to record the statement of ETV chairman.

On January 6, DB police arrested the ETV chairman from his Karwan Bazar office in the city.

On January 8, Tejgaon Thana Sub-Inspector Borhanuddin filed a case against BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman for derogatory remarks at a program in London on January 4 and Abdus Salam for airing live of the speech on Ekushey Television. 

Police took the ETV chairman on five-day remand on January 11.

The ETV chairman was also shown arrested in a case under pornography control Act filed by a woman named Kaniz Fatema on November 26 in 2014.

The case was filed with cantonment Thana after ETV broadcast an episode of ‘Ekusher Chokh’.
