3 arrested over Rangpur arson attack

RANGPUR: Police arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and two cadres of its student’s wing Islami Chattra Shibir in Mithapukur upazila of the district on Friday night in a case related to an arson attack that killed six people and burnt scores.

The detainees are Jamaat leader Abdul Wahed, 50, and Shibir-cadres Habibur Rahman, 24, and Nabab, 23.

Mithapukur Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Humayun Ahmed told banglanews that Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists killed six people by setting fire to a bus in Jagir Batason area of the upazlia on January 14.

The Jamaat-Shibir men have been made accused in a case filed over the arson attack, he also said. 

The detainees were directly involved in the attack and are being interrogated at the Thana, the OC added.
