DHAKA: At least 227 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country including capital to maintain law and order in the context of BNP-led 20-party-alliance called non-stop 36-hour countrywide hartal.

Sources told banglanews that there are more 77 reserved platoons.

However, the members of the deployed 227 platoons have already started patrolling from Saturday night, sources added.

Confirming the matter, BGB public relations officer Mohsin Reza said that among the deployed platoons, 125 teams will monitor safety on roads and highways while rest will be patrolling.

On the other hand, the non-stop 36-hour countrywide hartal, protesting power price hike, government’s ‘conspiracy of sabotages’ and arrest of their 10 thousands leaders and activists, has began on Sunday dawn.

The shut down, starting from 6:00am, will continue till Monday evening amid the BNP called nationwide indefinite blockade.
