KHAGRACHHARI: A man was shot dead in a gunfight between the members of Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS-Santu Larma) and United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in Manikchhari of Khagrachhari on Monday.

The diseased is identified as Ushimong Marma alias Babu (18), an activist of UPDF.

The incident took place at Lafaidong area of the upazila at 10:00am on the day.

A UPDF source said that the groups locked into clashes in establishing supremacy in the area.

Manikchhari Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shariful Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, UPDF publicity and publications department chief Niran Chakma blamed Borka Party, a fraction of JSS for the killing.

He said that some of their party people were staying in a house in the area. Suddenly, a group of unknown people cordoned the house and started firing.

After being shot Babu died on the spot while two of their party men managed to flee the scene, he added.

Denying the allegation, JSS assistant information secretary Sajib Chakma said that it was an intra-party clash of UPDF.
