Koko laid to rest

DHAKA: Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of former President Ziaur Rahman and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, was buried at Banani graveyard on Tuesday night after largely-attended funeral.

The namaj-e-janaza was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the afternoon after Asr prayers around 5:00pm amid tight security.

However, several thousand people including, BNP leaders and activists and its alliance attended the funeral.

Besides senior BNP leaders, former President and also Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh chief AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, its general secretary Major (reted) Abdul Mannan, Krishak Sramik Janata League president Kader Siddiqui, Bangladesh Bank former governor Salehuddin Ahmed and Kalyan Party chairman Major General (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim among others offered the janaza.

The family members and relatives decided to bury Koko at Banani civil graveyard as Bangladesh Army denied the burial of former president Ziaur Rahman’s son at Banani Military Graveyard.

Earlier in the day, Koko’s body was taken to BNP chief’s Gulshan office where Khaleda broke down in tears and got grief-stricken after seeing her son’s body.

However, a flight of Malaysia Airlines, carrying the body, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:45am.

Earlier on Saturday, Arafat Rahman Koko, 45, died at a hospital in Malaysia of cardiac arrest.
