JHENAIDAH: At least four people were killed and four others injured when a truck ran over a tempo in Dudhsar area under Shailkupa upazila of the district Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Safiuddin Safi, 35, son of Abdul Gafur Bishwas, Mojibar Rahman, 37, son of Roushan Ali, and Riazul Islam, 40, son of Abdur Razzak, of Kanarpukur village of Shailkupa upzila and Aminul Islam, son of Yusuf Ali of Charpara village of Harinakundu upazila of the district.

All of them were beetle leaf traders.

Two of the injured are Milon and Alamgir.

Jhenaidah Fire Service and Civil Defense station officer Abdur Rauf Mollah told banglanews that the accident took place when a speedy truck ran over a Jhenaidah-bound tempo, coming from opposite direction, in Dudhsar Residential Area around 6:30am, killing four people on the spot and injuring four others.

Fire Service personnel from Jhenaidah Sadar and Shailkupa upzilas rescued the injured and took them to the District Sadar Hospital.

Confirming the matter, Shailkupa Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Hashem Khan told banglanews that on information, police recovered the bodies from the spot and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police were trying to seize the truck. No case was filed in this connection, added the OC.
