Hasna Hamid dies, PM condoles

DHAKA: Hasna Hamid, wife of former lawmaker and also former treasurer of Awami League late professor Hamidur Rahman, died at a hospital in Singapore early Saturday.

She was 76.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep shock and condolences on the demise of Hasna, who was also mother of State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid Bipu.

Hasna had long been suffering from cancer and breathed her last around 5:00am (BDST).

In a condolence massage sent by the PM Office, the premier said that Hasna was one of those women who were working from behind for the movements of Bangladesh’s independence.

The premier prayed for peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Hasna’s body will be arrived in Nasrul’s residence in Baridhara area of the city at 5:00pm on Saturday.

Her first janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in the city’s Gulshan area after Jahur prayers on Sunday and the second janaza at Doleshwar playground in Keraniganj at 3:30pm on the day.

She will be buried at the family graveyard following the third janaza to be held after Asar prayers at her residence in Fatulla of Narayanganj.
