DHAKA: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman on Saturday urged all politicians to stop the ongoing violence in the country.

The rights watchdog body chief made the plea after the ‘Procession for Peace’ program.

He also requested the politicians to show patience and uphold the spirit of democracy.

Expressing his concern, Dr Mizanur said the government should use the law enforcers carefully in providing security to the common people.

Suggesting the use of proportionate power against the opposition, he said, power that violates human rights should not be exercised.

To the people, who are involved in violent political movements, the NHRC boss commented that no one can establish democracy by pushing the common people to insecurity.

He also urged the opposition political leaders, who are allegedly instigating violence, to take initiatives in stopping the anarchy across the country.

Dr Mizanur also expressed his concern for the students of SSC examinations and repeated his plea to withdraw the ongoing political programs for the sake of the examinees.

NHRC members Professor Mahfuza Khanam and Kazi Riazul Haque and members of several rights organization took part in the procession, which started from National Museum and ended to Central Shaheed Minar.
