DHAKA: Government has deployed 204 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel across the country including the capital on Sunday to prevent sabotages.
Sunday is the first day of BNP-led 20-party alliance enforced a countrywide 72-hour hartal, supplemented by their nationwide road-water-railway blockade for indefinite period.
70 more platoons have also kept standby to deploy on urgent basis.
BGB headquarters’ public relations officer Muhammad Mohsin Reza confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Mohsin said that six platoons of BGB have been deployed in the capital at 6:00am on Sunday to ensure security and they will remain on duty till 6:00pm.
Besides, 198 platoons have been deployed outside the Dhaka city to contain sabotage.
Of them, 108 platoons of the border force are giving escort to the moving vehicles on highways and 90 platoons are on duty at different places to prevent subversive activities, he added.
BNP-led 20-party alliance has begun observing a countrywide 72-hour hartal since Sunday morning, protesting threats by ruling Awami League leaders to arrest BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and uproot her Gulshan political office.
