CHITTAGONG: At least 10 people were injured in a derailment of Chittagong-bound train from Mymensingh as miscreants removed pandrol clips of fishplates of rail tracks in Boro Takia area under Mirsarai Upazila of the district early Monday.

Rail communications of Chittagong with Dhaka and other parts of the country were suspended since two compartments of Mynensingh Express veered off the tracks around 4:00am.

Confirming the matter, Railway eastern region divisional transport officer Firoz Iftekhar told banglanews that miscreants removed many pandrol clips of fishplates that make loose the rail line. The sabotage caused the derailment of two bogies of Mymensingh Express, leaving 10 people injured.

Later, the injured have received first aid, said sources concerned.

A relief train has already reached the spot around 8:00am and started the salvage operation.

Chittagong Railway Station Manager Abul Kalam Azad said Subarna Express and Mohanagar Probhati, which were scheduled to leave for Dhaka at 6:40am and 7:00am respectively, did not leave the Chittagong station due to the accident.
