BAGERHAT: Members of Bangladesh Navy detained 27 Indian fishermen for illegal entrance in Bangladesh maritime area in the Bay of Bengal Saturday afternoon.

A competent source from the Navy sources confirmed the matter to banglanews on Sunday.

Sources said the navy patrol ship ‘BNS Teesta’ detained 27 Indian fishermen and seized two trawlers while they entered Fairway Buoy area, 80 nautical miles away from Mongla, inside Bangladesh border on Saturday afternoon.

The detainees hail from South 24 Parganas district of India.

The detained fishermen were set to be handed over to the Mongla Thana police on Sunday evening after a case was filed against them, the source added.
