DHAKA: A number of senior police officers who exposed their partisan role through various wrongdoings have now gone “missing”, says a confidential report by the Police Headquarters to the Home Ministry.
The report listed six cops as missing, including the much-talked-about police super Kohinoor Mia.
It says the Police Headquarters (PHQ) is yet to receive any response from Masudul Hasan who was suspended for backing up militant activities by Jamaatul Mujahedin kingpin Bangla Bhai.
Besides, CID’s ASP Abdur Rashid, ASP Munshi Atiqur Rahman and police super Ruhul Amin, who were involved with investigation of the August 21 grenade attack, remained untraced after having been suspended.
The report also identified 10 other ‘suspicious and partisan’ officers who were kept under surveillance.
The report narrates: Police Super Kohinoor Mia has been on the run to avoid arrest as an accused in a murder case filed with Nandile police station in Mymensingh. The case was transferred to the CID from Nandile and gathering dust for the last eight months.
Investigation Officer of CID Ismail Hossain said that the allegation against Kohinoor was yet to be substantiated with proof.
The PHQ listed Masudul Hasan, the then police super of Rajshahi who allegedly cooperated with Bangla Bhai, as missing although he submitted a prayer to the review committee of the Home Ministry to get back his job.
Additional Police Super of PHQ’s special cell on militants Jannatul Hassan said that Masud could not be traced despite repeated call.
The investigating officer of the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on Awami League rally, ASP of CID Abdur Rashid, has been dismissed for diverting the investigation.
There are allegations against former SP Ruhul Amin and ASP Munshi Atiqur Rahman of the CID of implicating Awami League leaders in the grenade-attack case.
In a report, the Home Ministry accused both of misdirecting the case through cooking up a “false” case. Contractual appointment of Munsi Atiq was cancelled while SP Ruhul Amin sent into forced retirement.
Neither SP Ruhul Amin nor ASP Munshi Atiq did appear in the court after they got bail in the case.
Similarly, the PHQ does not know the whereabouts of ASP Abdur Rashid.
Police Super Mizanur Rahman was placed under temporary suspension for his alleged land-grabbing offence during his service in Bagerhat.
Although the Home Minister announced Mizan would be dismissed, he did not face any investigation or punishment. His temporary sack has been withdrawn and the period was shown as ‘working period’ with posting at DMP headquarters. He has joined his new post, sources said.
