Encounter incidents not intentional: DMP

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Wednesday claimed that the incidents of encounters do not take place “intentionally”.

Mentioning the ongoing violence, the DMP chief said, “The encounter takes place when such environment is created.”

Asaduzzaman Mia was addressing an award giving program at DMP Media Centre on Minto Road in the city at noon.

DMP, at the function, awarded four people for their bravery to detain the anarchists.

The DMP chief said that every citizen has constitutional rights of self-defense and according to Articles No-96 and 107 of the Constitutions one holds rights of self-protection when they come under attack.

A total of 1,010 people were detained across the city in connection of creating anarchic situation amid ongoing blockade and shutdowns, Asaduzzaman Mia informed the audience.
