DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League (AL) president, on Wednesday categorically said BNP-Jamaat would be banned automatically if countrymen want so.
“Khaleda Zia is a murderer. She is not doing politics rather acting like a bandit,” she said.
The premier made the assertion while addressing the parliament in response to questions of opposition leader Raushan Ershad, opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury, AL lawmaker Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru and Haji Selim.
She also told the House: “Khaleda’s activities are to protect herself from people’s wrath. People became furious because of her misdeeds.”
Sheikh Hasina said, “They (BNP-Jamaat) do not have the rights to carry out politics. They will be banned automatically if people want.”
Sheikh Hasina also informed the House that her government is closely monitoring the violence perpetrated by BNP-Jamaat alliance in the name staging anti-government movements.
She also said that the BNP-led 20-party so far burnt 39 people to death since the first week of January during ‘issueless’ hartal and indefinite blockade countrywide.
Earlier in the day, the premier, while visiting Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will have to face trial for terrorism as per international standard.
She also asked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to stop burning people by petrol bombs and terrorist activities.
She also gave Tk 10 lakh to each burn victims.
