DHAKA: The operation of new Burn Unit has begun at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from Sunday morning to ensure better treatment for burn victims amid growing acts of sabotage countrywide.
BSMMU vice chancellor Professor Pran Gopal Datta inaugurated the Burn Unit on the ground floor of the university’s Cabin Block in the morning.
University authorities said that an expert team will remain on duty for 24-hours in three shifts to provide treatment to the patients.
The team will be assisted by a group of trained nurses and adequate number of employees.
At present, the burn unit has a total of 10 beds, which will be increased gradually in accordance with the demand of patients.
Treatment at the burn unit will be given free of cost, according to the authorities.
BSMMU pro-VC (administration) professor Mohammod Shahidullah, pro-VC (academic) professor M Ruhul Amin Miah, pro-VC (research and development) Professor Md. Shahidullah Sikder, treasurer professor M Zulfikar Rahman Khan, and director (hospital) Brigadier General (Retd) Abdul Majid Bhuiyan, among others, were present at the inaugural function.
