BARISAL: Two persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Batazor area under Gauronod Uupazila in the district on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Izzat Ali, 80, and a rickshaw-van driver Sekendar, residents of the upazila.

Police sources said that a rashly-driven passenger bus rammed into the rickshaw-van on Dhaka-Barisal highway in the area around 11:00am, leaving one dead on the spot and four others injured.

However, the injured were rushed to local Ashokathi Health Complex, where the van driver succumbed to his injuries.

Police seized the bus but the driver managed to flee the scene.

Gauronodi Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury confirmed the matter to banglanews.
