DHAKA: Visiting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid homage to the martyrs of the historic language movement by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city at the wee hours of Saturday.
After placing wreaths this afternoon, Mamata stood in solemn silence for some time in honor of the language martyrs and then she said that she felt proud after paying homage to the language heroes of Bangla language.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee along with her accompanying ministers, singers, officials were also present there.
She also saluted the language movement martyrs who laid their lives for the sake of Bangla language.
The Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day, February 21, is also observed in Kolkata with great honor and dignity.
Commemorating the sacrifice of the language heroes, Mamata said that she is also proud for being a user of this language.
The Prime Minister of the country Sheikh Hasina greeted Mamata Banerjee at the Shaheed Minar.
The visiting CM of West Bengal of India is scheduled to make a courtesy call on the Premier Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Saturday.
