DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina alleged that BNP-Jamaat alliance is committing genocide across the country in the name of movement.

She was addressing an inaugural ceremony of ‘The 4th International Conference on Burn and Plastic Surgery’ at Sonargaon Hotel on Thursday noon.

Citing violence being carried out by BNP-Jamaat during non-stop blockade and frequent hartals, the premier said: “May Allah bring those to right way as they are burning innocent people to death. These are actually murders. It's genocide. The people, who are doing such acts, are accused of murder.” 

It is not possible for any human being to accept these kinds of heinous acts, she added.

Sheikh Hasina questioned why the people of the country will have to pay for wrong decision taken by a particular party. Why the sudden rampage when the country is going forward, people are living in peace and comfort. 

She went on saying “Certainly it is not for the interest of the people. It's only for fulfilling personal interest.”

She said the government has decided to set up a separate Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the country to provide better treatment to the burn injury patients.

The Prime Minister said the government has already established burn units at many places and will introduce burn unit at all district hospitals to reach treatment to the burn victims.

"The facilities will be expanded up to upazila level in phases to ensure healthcare services for the burn injured patients," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the government has a plan to establish an international standard burn institute as we need more physicians, nurses due to increased number of burn victims.

The Prime Minister applauded the efforts of the physicians at the burn units to save the life of the burn victims amid limitation of assets and expressed deep gratitude to them on behalf of the nation.

She also mentioned the financial assistance provided by her government to the affected owners of damaged vehicles and people who sustained burn injuries due to petrol bomb attacks during hartal-blockade.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim and State Minister for Health Zahid Maleque Secretary of the Ministry of Health Syed Monjurul Islam, SPSB President Dr Samanta Lal Sen, vice-president Prof Brig Gen (retd) Anjan Kumar Deb and SPSB Secretary Dr Abul Kalam also spoke on the occasion.
