DHAKA: Renowned progressive political leader Nurul Huq Chowdhury alias Comrade Mehdi was admitted to the Suhrawardy Hospital with serious ailments.

He was taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital on Friday, close associate of Mehdi said.

Comrade Mehdi, who has been leading the Garibi Hatao Andolan for the last several years, was in an unconscious state on the day.

The veteran politician still remains at the ICU of the hospital, the source said.
