SUNAMGANJ: A fisherman was killed at a wetland called ‘Ghagtia Beel’ in Shalla upazila of the district following clashes between police and fishermen Saturday morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Sources told banglanews that the incident took place around 10:30am.

According to the witnesses, clashes were broke out as scores of fishermen went to catch fishes illegally at Ghagtia Beel and faced barred by police.

The unidentified fisherman died during the clashes, they added.

Later, police took the situation under control by opening fire.

However, Sunamganj additional superintendent of police (ASP) Saiful Islam commented that the situation is ‘normal’.
