DHAKA: The government will generate a total of 23,000 skilled manpower along with their employments in the next three years at free of cost.

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) will assist the government in the project.

BASIS president Shamim Ahmed informed the matter in a press conference at its office in capital’s Karwan Bazar on Thursday.

Through this project, starting from April, people will be trained through setting up lab in seven divisional cities. Authorities will begin training people in Dhaka and Chittagong this year and the rest of five other divisions later in phases.

Some 5000-trained manpower will get job in the information and technology sector in the first year, nine thousand in the next two years. During the training period, Tk 3,150 stipend will be given to trainees per month, he told the audience.
 
The training will be provided under the Skill for Employment Investment Program of the Finance Ministry. The cost of per trainee has been estimated at Tk35000.

The application procedures have been published in BASIS (basis.org.bd) and Basis Institute of Technology Management (BITM) (bitm.org.bd) websites. Interested persons will be selected through a three-step written and oral examination.

The 3-month training will be provided under a total of 12 courses including Web Design, Cloud Management, English Training and Business Communications. HSC is the required educational qualification of candidates.

Finance division joint secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder said in initial stages, this project has received fund of Tk 1100 crore. After initial success, the fund will be increased to more than Tk 8- crore.

Finance division additional secretary Jalal Ahmed, also national project director of SIP project, organization’s former president Fahim Mashrur, BASIS treasurer and BITM director Shah Imraul Kaish also spoke in the press meet.
